Interesting post on a blog...
Twentysomething: Why I regret getting straight A’s in college
One interesting thing, note how deeply ingrained the idea of getting good grades is in our heads... This guy makes some very good points, but some of the comments he got were pretty scathing.

He's crazy. Lawyers get paid plenty of money.
i like all his observations and i'm not sure how bad comments can be - i've seen each of his points play out in real life too!
My opinion is go for what's important to you. At the time, A's was important to him and he showed a commitment, drive, determination and passion (??) for it. There are problably some skills and character traits that he doesn't realize he learned.
(I wonder, though, if he's figured out yet that staying awake for the extra hours of study can sometimes be counter productive to using sleep to process all that studying)
It's sad to regret it now - I prefer not to regret anything, rather use those times as learning experiences and walk away stronger.
A good read.
I agree that he spent too much time studying and I'm pretty much w/ Martha on this one in that you should do what you have a drive for. If you are ultra competitive, odds are you are going to do well in school anyways - lots of studying or not. But if you're competitive like that, you enjoy the thrill of 'winning' and that's how you justify it.
Interesting perspectives... Didn't think about the "competitive" part.
Dale - I love seening a Penelope Trunk (PT) blog on your blog, I have to feel responsible. As for the topic I think it's awesome because the good grades / doctor / lawyer career path is the outdated "ideal" career path and it's running into friction with the next generation admiring the college drop outs who start their own companies like Microsoft and Dell! I think any transitional period in "public thinking" lends itself to great debate and controversy!
Yes, kudos to Tom... I actually saw the title in the links next to your blog.
