Response from Google

My cousin came up with these responses as to top things Google can teach P&G:

1) Allow users to create their own formulas for products
2) Sell advertising on your packaging
3) Give away products initially, figure out how to sell them later

Can you imagine if we did #3?

I can't tell if you're kidding with the last statement or not, but doesn't P&G do that already?...New products are frequently handed out, often in small trial size packages either individually or attached to another product that is purchased, and often with a coupon to buy the product at a discount later. Or for example, the razor is free, all you have to do is buy the replacement blades, and only one design fits so the consumer repeat buys the same item. Obviously it works best on consumable/disposable products...but those are most of P&G's products anyways.

Well Google takes a to a new level compared to P&G. We won't launch a product unless we have the financials, business model, etc. all buttoned up. The free samples are part of the marketing strategy. Most of Google's product is free, and it's only relatively recently when they figured out how to make a lot of money with it.
